Onam Celebrations

Onam, one of the biggest festivals of Kerala is celebrated with much fanfare and exuberance every year at Abhyasa. This year, on 25th August 2018 as many as 5 floral carpets, known as Pookkalam have been made out of the gathered blossoms of several varieties of flowers of differing tints to make design and decorate patterns on floor like a flower mat with lamps arranged in the middle or edges. These works of religious art have been done by the team of girl students and women staff, who accomplished it with a delicate touch and a personal artistic sense of tone and blending. According to legend, Onam celebrates the return of the King Mahabali to Kerala. All the festivities during Onam are mainly preparations to welcome him. Mahabali was considered to be a very kind and generous ruler. In fact, the period during which he ruled over Kerala is often referred to as the Golden period.
