ISRO Visit 2016

Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) or Sriharikota High Altitude Range (SHAR) is a rocket launch centre operated by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It is located in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. Sriharikota Launching Range was renamed in 2002 after ISRO's former chairman Satish Dhawan.

Abhyasa International Residential School has been conducting educational Tour to SHAR for its students in association with its external agency "Space Adhyaan" since 2015. During 2015-16, the students of Abhyasa visited SHAR centre twice and this year also a group of 35 students with two teacher In Charges Mr.Mirza Wajeed , Mrs. Swapna Reddy and a guide from Space Adhyayan visited SHAR Centre on 24th August, 2016.

At first our students visited Auditorium of SHAR and there they were shown a video capsule about the ISRO role and how they launch rockets starting from planning to execution in different stages. After completion of video the students were taken to Space Museum where Students got the glimpse of ISRO models like GSLV and PSLV and got knowledge about several concepts related to Astronomy and Space Science in the Museum. They also got the opportunity of learning more about India's lunar orbiter Chandrayaan-1 launched from the centre on 22 October 2008 and India's first Mars orbiter Mangalyaan launched from it on November 5 2013.

After having lunch the team went to visit rocket launch pad. But the ISRO authorities had to cancel the visit due to the sudden emission of toxic gases at the launching pads due to some technical problems. As it was very hazardous to move into that area, our students did not visit there. But they got the opportunity of visiting the Pulicat Lake, the second largest brackish- water lake or lagoon in India. They enjoyed themselves at the lake till 4:30pm and returned to the lodge. After having dinner they set out their return journey and reached Abhyasa happily on 25.8.2016 at 9.00am.

Visit to SHAR provided an opportunity to the students of Abhyasa to learn more about several concepts related to Astronomy and Space Science.
