    Ugadi Celebrations 2017

    Ugadi, a new year celebration in states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, falls on March 28 this year. As India is known for its versatile culture and the way it is celebrated, even the New Year fest has different names and times in different parts of the country. A festival that is known by the name of Gudi Parva in Maharashtra, is celebrated as Ugadi in some other states. Clear with its name Udagi or Yugadi, which is literally translated as the start of the new calendar – Yug (new) and adi (the beginning), falls on the first day of Chitra- the first month in Hindi calendar. The festival is celebrated with high spirits, new clothes and abundance of some mouth-watering traditional cuisines. It is also the first day when there is a change in pattern of moon’s orbit. Ugadi is celebrated a day after the first new moon and after the sun passes the celestial equator on the spring equinox.

    The day started as students of Abhyasa waking up before dawn and taking oil baths according to the ritual, after which they decorate campus temple front with extensively prepared colorful rangolis and the doors and windows with strings of mango leaves that signify good crop and general well-being over the year. Ugadi Pachhadi, a unique dish of six different tastes, from sweet to bitter, is prepared on the day, which is also the first dish to be eaten by the students which is Made up of neem buds, jaggery, green chili, salt, tamarind juice and unripe mango, the dish signifies different experiences in life that should be absorbed and to keep walking the good walk.

    Mr. Vinaayaka Kalletla (CEO and Founder Director) preformed Havan (Homam) in the campus temple.The vedic mantras, chants and predictions for the coming year are made by the pundits.

    The event concluded with the distribution of new clothes to all workers of Abhyasa. by Mr. Vinaayaka Kalletla ( CEO and Founder Director.)
