Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE – New Delhi )

CurriculumYears after the country wrested independence from british rule in 1947 there were over 200 anglo indian schools across the newly independent country. The intervention of the supreme court of india in the bombay schools case (1954) which upheld the fundamental right of the minority anglo indian community to 'Establish and Administer' institutions of its choice. English medium schools smoothened the road for cisce which officially assumed the role and functions of the cambridge syndicate in 1973 by offering its equivalent icse and isc school leaving exminations.

The council prescribes general guidelines for classes l to Vlll, leaving school management and teachers free to provide customized education to their students while adopting the best teaching – learning practices which the council communicates to them from time to time.however , for teachers in classes lX to Xll , the council provides a detailed scope of syllabus guidelines to prepare students for class X and Xll scholl leaving exams so that teachers know the limits of the subjects and are able to cover the syllabus making the average students feel comfortable about writing the council's board exams. The distinguishing characteristic of the cisce board is that its curriculum and syllabuses, which are on par with those of british 'o ' level and 'a ' level examinations boards , as compared to cbse. The council offers 20 optional subjects but the responsibility for the correct selection pf subjects but the responsibility for the correct selection of subjects to meet professional requirements of students lies with the school.

The council for indian school certificate exminations , new delhi , prescribes the syllabus to be instructed for classes lX and X . the school conducts an examination on completion of class lX ,while the council sets paper and conducts examinations at the end of class X (comprising class X portion only ) the council specifies that a student should study 3 compulsory subjects and opt for 3 optional subjects the total being 6 subjects. The number of papers ( number of exams) in each of the enlisted on the following page.

Each paper has one theory exam for 80 marks and one project for 20 marks. The 80 marks theory exam is conducted by the council for I.C.S.E. The 20 marks project work is evaluated. Internally by the school. The final percentage for 100 marks in each subject is reflected in the pass certificate issued by the council for ICSE. The student has to pass in at least 5 subjects including english (out of the total six ) and the qualifying percentage for pass 35%. the council does not give any ranks or distinctions.

CurriculumDue importance is given to the acquisition of ' logistic skills ' and ' numerical abilities ' . hence special attention is assigned to math practice every day and weekly tests are conducted in math and science every sunday – for students who have opted for math and science.
